FAQ
Q. What is mead?
A. Mead is honey wine; wine made with honey instead of grapes or grains. Mead can be dry or sweet, carbonated or still, 4% - 20% ABV. Mead is versatile, fun, and unique.
Q. Is mead beer?
No, mead is not beer, and does not contain any grain products. All our mead is naturally gluten-free.
Q. Is mead sweet?
A. Mead doesn’t have to be sweet, since the yeast typically consumes all sugars during fermentation. It’s possible to make mead that is completely dry. We believe in achieving balance and generally choose to sweeten our meads with honey to achieve a pleasing flavor.
Q. What is modern mead?
A. Modern mead uses temperature-controlled fermentation and timed organic yeast nutrient additions for a clean and healthy fermentation. Modern mead borrows techniques and ingredients from modern wine-making such as specialty fermentation tannins or cold macerating fruit before fermentation.
Q. What makes your mead different from the stuff I’ve had before?
A. By making mead using modern techniques, we produce a clean beverage for the modern drinker. Our mead is creative, taking inspiration from craft beer. We make meads that are packed with flavor, and balanced with sweetness and acidity. Our meads typically feature heavy fruit or spice additions, to create a wide variety of bold flavors.
Q. Why Do you oak-age some of your meads?
A. Oak provides structure, body, and balance to mead. The oak is rich in vanillin and tannins which impart a unique character to the mead, complimenting the flavor. American, French, and Hungarian oak each bring unique characteristics to mead.
Q. Is your mead Gluten-free?
A. Yes, our mead is always 100% gluten-free.
